What is a feminist?

It has been asked what sort of feminist I approve of, and some speculation's been gone into over it. Someone who thanks me for having the vote maybe? No, not really.

I guess that the world is full of people who want to call themselves feminists, just as there are plenty that would deny all others any right to use the title -
There are 10 sorts of people in the world, they say - those who can read binary code, and those who can't.
But it seems to me that you can sort out feminists into two groups -

those who do something to help other women
and those who just want to insult and demean men.

Maybe the genuinely helpful ones have ranty moments from time to time, and perhaps the rantiest will do something practical now and then, but it is less about me and more about what they do for others.

Another thing is - the good ones don't just buy a teeshirt or a badge saying " Yay, I'm a feminist!". Anyone can do that - hey , even I could. No - the *real* feminists, in my book, are those who join and represent proper organisations. ones that have a mailing address and a proper membership role and appoints official spokespeople.

Take Liz Sully, who works for WAFE. Now her group not only runs hostels to help women who are fleeing domestic abuse, but they also campaign to raise awareness and change attitudes in society. Not only that, but they lobby MPs and try to effect changes in legislation. I applaud that and can get behind it. More to the point, when I wrote in recently and offered a donation, I actually got a civil response.

So there you have it. To me, a decent feminist is someone who does something to help women, and is not so ideologically blinded that they can't, don't, or won't work together with men in order to make the changes that need to happen.

Ok, so I live in the UK, but to anyone, anywhere else, I would say 'Find out what organisations there are working in your country, and your neighborhood, and show your support in a practical way. Not just wear a badge, but give of your time, your money. network for them , introduce them to people who could be helpful or useful to know.

i know this community calls itself ' antifeminist', but I get that it's more about opposing the direction that the ideology has taken sometimes, rather than disagreeing with the philosophy and it's aims.

So, if like me guys, you are totally pissed of by women who just want to insult you and rubbish you for being a bloke, maybe the answer is to find a respectable organisation that knows a good deal when it gets offered, to support it, and ask the next Feminist who rubbishes you what exactly *they* are doing to change the status quo.

After all, talk comes cheap, and there is nothing cheaper than the insults that some men have to put up with, lemme tell you. Why should we help them, some may ask. Because it seems to me that the truly downtrodden women of this world are not writing books and stuff inciting hatred against men, or ridiculing and demeaning them.
And much as their so called ' sisters in struggle' like to portray me as the oppressor whom *they* will save them from , it's actually *my* money that is helping to keep one small local hostel open at present it's *my* money that is helping a woman in Africa grow her own food or run her own business to support her family. and , yes, i think that this 8does* make me a better person than my critics.

Any further suggestions or tips to help the fight against misandry would be appreciated.
