The ethics of feminism?

A row has recently erupted in the British press.
A female POC has written a book which has sparked a row because it paints the London immigrant community in a poor light by showing the blatent sexism that goes on within it.

In the Blue corner, we have Germaine Greer - white feminist author who says that when you are poor, self esteem is hard to come by and she should not be knocking the immigrant community like this.

In the Red Corner, Yasmin Alibai-Brown, a female journalist *and* POC in her own right. She maintains that it's the men within the immigrant community who are oppressing their own womenfolk, and the women don't have to take that from whitey, so why should they put up with it from "one of their own kind"?

"Germaine Greer recently attacked Monica Ali and Sarah Gavron for causing offence to the poor brown people of Brick Lane: "For people who don't have much, self-esteem is crucial." What patronising rubbish. Self-esteem comes not from protesting against reality but having the guts to face it, warts and all"
writes Yasmin. See the full article here :-

At present, my money is on Yasmin. As a POC herself, I expect that she has a better handle on it than Germaine. But to paraphrase Savagemind "When feminists decide what feminism is, then I'll decide what to do about it". I mean - who is standing up for women here, Germaine or Yasmin? It has been said that Feminism has no Martin Luther King - no central figure that everyone subscribes to. It would also appear that there is no overriding set of ethics that Feminists can unite around when the interests of one set of oppressed (like immigrant men) start oppressing another set of people (their own womenfolk in this case).

So, who is behind who on this forum , and why?
